Commissioners of Agriculture, Corporations, Insurance, Lands, Public Services, Mines and Railroads Plus Court Officials and Adjutant General
Commissioners of Agriculture
Six states cast 11,392,521 ballots to elect Commissioners of Agriculture. Democrats won 4 and Republicans won 2, even though the Republicans out-polled the Democrats by 5,725,292 (50.3%) to 5,520,699 (48.4%) with 146,529 (1.2%) going to the independents.
The reason for this anomalous outcome was that in the two winning Republican states there was no Democratic candidate in South Carolina and the Texas Republican won with a 510,000 vote margin. The Democrats won in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Iowa.
Except for the unopposed South Carolinian, who received 99.3% of the vote, the rest of the margins were more normal: 50% in Iowa, 55.4% in Florida, 55.6% in Alabama, 56.2% in Texas, and 62.8% in Georgia.
